Horsing around

As some of you may know I am a keen equestrian and I can’t imagine any better way to explore the Rights of Way network than on horse back.

I grew up in the Lake District and rode many friends horses and ponies through the stunning scenery, I was very lucky to volunteer and work for the Lake District Calvert Trust Riding for the Disabled where we had access to some lovely routes up over Latrigg and the surrounding area.

We didn’t have very many public bridleways in the Lakes so a lot of the time relied on very kind landowners giving us permission to ride on their land. Many of my farming friends took me out riding all over the commons and over the hills.

We didn’t often get to enjoy the stunning weather shown in these photos but whatever the weather the Lakes is a beautiful place to explore on horse back. I would recommend everyone visiting the Lake District, whether an experienced rider or a total beginner, to book a ride to see the scenery from a different perspective through the ears (it saves your legs hiking up the hills too!)
